Bungie Now Issuing Permanent Console Bans To 'Destiny' Cheaters, Just As 'Destiny 2' Reveal Rumors Heat Up

Rumors of when Bungie and Activision will announce Destiny 2 are heating up, but not all the focus is being shifted to the sequel of the massively popular multiplayer shooter.

Bungie is now expanding the crackdown to Destiny cheaters who play on consoles, which should make the playing experience on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 much better as gamers wait for Destiny 2.

Permanent Console Bans For Destiny Cheaters

It is much harder for players on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 to cheat. As with the consoles having their own forms of security, there are fewer tools and methods that can be used to gain unfair advantages over opponents.

However, this has not stopped cheaters from ruining the competitive multiplayer modes of Destiny. Some forms of cheating include playing altered versions of Destiny though modded consoles, using third-party apps to change how the game works and launching denial of service attacks that slow down the connections of opponents to ensure a win for the cheaters.

As tweeted by Chris Shannon, the community manager for Bungie, console bans will now be issued out for devices linked to several banned and restricted accounts.

According to an updated official support page from Bungie regarding the matter, once Bungie has decided to issue a ban on a console, it will not allow players to dispute the issued ban. The developer said that it will implement rigorous checking so that there will be no mistakes made in handing out the console bans.

Destiny 2 Reveal Date

The announcement of permanent console bans against cheaters, however, does not overshadow the rumors that Destiny 2 might soon be revealed.

Players and the video game industry have long known that Bungie and Activision are working on Destiny 2, with the game to have a release date of 2017. There is no official announcement for the game yet, though that might change very soon as hinted by the latest Bungie Weekly Update.

"The week after, we'll be packing our bags for Anaheim, CA. The particulars of our mission are still a mystery. We'll cross that finish line soon," stated the last line in the update.

PlayStation Experience 2016, an annual event by Sony, will take place in Anaheim, California on Dec. 3 and Dec. 4. The show has hosted game announcements in the past, but it should be noted that The Game Awards will be held in Dec. 1, which is more well known for an event where announcements for new games are made.

The theory is that Bungie could be making the Destiny 2 announcement at The Game Awards and then will have a public demo or something similar at PlayStation Experience 2016.

While this is just speculation, it is a pretty sound one that has a good chance of turning out to be true.
