With an expected April 2017 release, details regarding the LG G6 have been making the rounds. The latest report claims the smartphone will retain a standard 3.5mm headphone port, lose its user swappable battery, and add an all-glass design.
It's never too early to try and figure out what the biggest smartphone makers are working on for its latest and greatest devices. We've recently learned that Samsung may be planning to follow Apple by removing the standard 3.5mm headphone port from 2017's flagship Galaxy S8 and possibly including Harman stereo speakers for a better audio experience. Reports have also popped up for what we can expect to see from LG when it announces its LG G6 at Mobile World Congress 2017.
LG G6 To Gain New Design With One Major Drawback
We just reported that LG is reportedly planning to make its next flagship smartphone waterproof in order to compete with Apple and Samsung. In order for LG to achieve making the LG G6 water resistant, the company will move away from the modular build of the LG G5, which allows users to add accessories like a removable battery and camera attachment to the device, to a completely sealed design.
A tweet from David Ruddock of Android Police appears to confirm that LG will indeed move to a new design with the LG G6 and will remove the much-loved user swappable battery that its competitors could not offer. The all-glass design would certainly be a departure from the metal build of the LG G5.
While LG may remove the ability to replace the LG G6's battery, it will try and make up for it by including wireless charging capabilities out of the box that will also allow the smartphone to use "LG Pay" to authorize mobile payments.
LG Will Let The 3.5mm Headphone Port Live On In The G6
While Apple has already ditched the standard 3.5mm headphone port on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, and Samsung expected to do the same with the Galaxy S8, LG will supposedly retain the headphone jack on the LG G6.
LG is widely believed to unveil the LG G6 at Mobile World Congress, which kicks off on Feb. 27 and release the smartphone in April.
As always, we'll keep you posted on any additional LG G6 details as they become available.
