LG will reportedly add a few of the most popular features of Samsung's Galaxy S7 and S7 edge in its LG G6 in 2017. A new report claims the company will design the smartphone to be waterproof, in addition to wireless charging capabilities out of the box.
Mobile World Congress 2017, which begins on Feb. 27, 2017 will likely be the trade show that sees some of the biggest smartphone makers unveil 2017 flagship handsets. Last year's show saw the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 edge and LG G5 and next year's show is already rumored to be the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S8, S8 Plus and LG G6.
LG And Samsung Planning New Smartphones At MWC 2017
We've already reported on multiple leaks regarding next year's Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, which recently revealed themselves in the form of official model numbers. The smartphones are rumored to both feature 4K curved Super AMOLED displays, which is why the "edge" moniker may be replaced to "Plus." LG is also widely believed to take the wraps of its 2017 flagship smartphone, the LG G6 at MWC 2017.
LG G6 New Features
A new report sheds some light on what we can expect to see LG offer with its follow up to 2016's modular flagship, LG G5 with 2017's LG G6. While LG touted the uniquely modular design of the G5, it was a feature that never gained the kind of appeal LG was hoping third-party companies would create for the device. It now appears that LG is planning to abandon the modular design of the G5 when it officially launches the LG G6.
Waterproof Case
According to ET News, LG will follow Samsung and Apple by designing the LG G6 to be waterproof and will use an advanced waterproof adhesive around the LG G6's metal frame that is stronger than the tape Samsung uses in the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge's waterproof case. This also means that while LG highly touted the LG G5 as being one of the only smartphones to retain a user removable battery, LG is also going to follow in Apple and Samsung's footsteps by removing this feature.
Wireless Charging
The LG G6 is also said to gain wireless charging capabilities out of the box, something Samsung has long offered on its Galaxy S flagship smartphones and a feature Apple is rumored to finally add to next year's iPhone 8.
We'll keep you posted on any addition LG G6 news as it becomes available.
