GoDaddy Acquires WP Curve: What This Means For Customers Of The WordPress Services Provider

Popular web hosting company GoDaddy has acquired start-up company WP Curve, which offers services and support for WordPress sites.

GoDaddy Buys WP Curve

Dan Norris and Alex McClafferty created WP Curve three years ago as a catch-all services provider for WordPress sites. It offers services such as boosting security, increasing search engine traffic and more. It has almost 1,000 subscribers and over 44,000 orders completed since its conception.

Specific details about the acquisition have not been disclosed, but WP Curve's user base, assets and "a few dozen" WP Curve employees will migrate to GoDaddy, as reported by TechCrunch.

WP Curve first met GoDaddy's hosting team in June this year, where it discussed the WP Curve model, the team and the company's accomplishments.

"We quickly agreed that WP Curve services would be a great fit for GoDaddy's customers. WP Curve complements GoDaddy's expanding WordPress offering including Managed WordPress and the recent ManageWP addition," WP said in a blog post.

McClafferty worked closely with GoDaddy for the transition.

"We've made a ton of progress that we can't wait to share in the coming months," WP Curve said.

What Happens To WP Curve Customers?

Paying WP Curve subscribers shouldn't worry too much about the acquisition. WP Curve says that customers will still receive great support from the same team, but not without a few rough patches as WP Curve tries to fulfill a proper transit to GoDaddy.

WP Curve will reroute existing customers to GoDaddy systems, so these subscribers will soon receive an email from GoDaddy detailing the transition process along with requirements to maintain the subscription service. Afterward, WP Curve will scale the service to support WordPress customers at GoDaddy, introducing a number of services WP Curve subscribers are already familiar with.

McClafferty will join GoDaddy as the leader of WP Curve, while Norris has already moved on to other projects. However, he will remain with WP Curve during the company's the transition period. WP Curve 24/7 WordPress developers Julie Tucker and Brittni Prieto will also join GoDaddy.

GoDaddy has remained laconic over news of the acquisition, though a statement from Kevin Pigman, the company's senior VP for Global Customer Care, has noted that WP Curve will join GoDaddy's other services.

"GoDaddy will provide best-in-class, [24/7] WordPress support, ranging from quick content changes, installing plugins, and security/back up," said Pigman.
