Two new characters have been added to Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. These are Captain America and Morrigan, revealed via an extended gameplay trailer shown during ESPN2's rebroadcast of the Capcom Cup. The two join Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Ryu and Megaman X in the roster.
The extended gameplay trailer reveals a number of things too such as Captain America's Charging Star move and Morrigan's winged acrobatics, which gives the Darkstalkers mainstay quite a bit of swagger during combat.
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite was announced at this year's PlayStation Experience, coming on the heels of dispirited fans who have long waited for a new entry in the very popular crossover franchise. Per usual, rumors pointing to an imminent release spurred fans hope, but not for long, since a developer for the game revealed that an entry was nowhere near the pipeline.
Turns out, there is in fact a new entry in the franchise, arriving five years after the last game, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, was released. According to the PlayStation Blog's official announcement, the game will include a single-player Arcade Mode, Training and Mission Modes and a cinematic Story Mode that lulls players at the center of both universes to vie for supremacy.
Assist Characters
Also depicted in the extended gameplay trailer is what appears to be a more nuanced assist feature during combats. According to Inquisitr, the seemingly combo-based switch, where fighters can enter mid-combo and do their own damage, is clearly reminiscent of old Marvel vs. Capcom titles where fighters enter the frame to do more than simply hurtle attacks to the opponent.
Infinity Stones
A new element from the Marvel lore will now also drastically play a major role in strategic combats. Called Infinity Stones, these special gems will give characters god-like powers, and there's one for each aspect of the universe: power, space, time, reality, soul and mind. Each infinite stone gives off a different power, with the time stone giving Captain Marvel the ability to dodge attacks, for example.
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is still in development, but it's slated to have a late 2017 release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The Marvel vs. Capcom franchise is a series of crossover games where iconic Marvel and Capcom characters clash together in battles. Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is the eighth entry in the series overall.
