At Sony's PlayStation Experience 2016, it was announced that three music-related games are getting remastered to bring them into the PlayStation 4 in 2017.
For those interested, the titles are the iconic hip-hop rhythm game PaRappa the Rapper from the PlayStation 1 and the charming LocoRoco and the war chant-centric Patapon, both from the PlayStation Portable handheld gaming device.
New Remastered Games For The PlayStation 4
The arrival of PaRappa the Rapper, LocoRoco and Patapon to the PlayStation 4 follows Sony's move last year to bring select PlayStation 2 games, including Dark Cloud, Rogue Galaxy and several Grand Theft Auto titles, to the PlayStation 4.
These games, which also added PlayStation 4 features such as trophy support, remote play, share play, live broadcast and active feeds, were not simply made backward compatible with the PlayStation 4. They received a remaster to bring up their quality to 1080p, and the same thing will be done with PaRappa the Rapper, LocoRoco and Patapon.
However, in addition, these games will also be rendered in 4K to make them compatible with the most powerful version of the PlayStation 4 available, the PlayStation 4 Pro.
New Features For PaRappa The Rapper And LocoRoco
In addition to making the games look great on HD and 4K TVs, Sony said on a post on the official PlayStation blog that new features will be added to them.
For PaRappa the Rapper Remastered, the DualShock 4 controller will provide a steady metronome so that players can feel the beat of each song in the game, making it easier for them to press the buttons at the right time. The player icon will also increase in size when the player presses a button during a song for visual feedback while playing.
Meanwhile, for LocoRoco Remastered, players can use the DualShock 4 controller for motion controls that will roll, tilt and bounce the LocoRoco through the animated stages.
PaRappa the Rapper Remastered Demo Now Available
PaRappa the Rapper will be celebrating its 20th anniversary on Dec. 6, and in commemoration, a special demo of PaRappa the Rapper Remastered was released on the PlayStation Store.
The demo will show the difference between the original PlayStation 1 version and the remastered PlayStation 4 version of the cult classic, and will also hint at how the remastered versions of Loco Roco and Patapon will look on the PlayStation 4.
A specific release date has not been unveiled for PaRappa the Rapper Remastered, along with the remastered versions of LocoRoco and Patapon. The official PlayStation blog said that it will reveal release details over the coming months.
