Game developer and publisher Rockstar Games celebrates the 10th birthday of "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas," one of the most critically acclaimed and best-selling video games in history, with a grand anniversary weekend and limited-time trilogy sale.
"GTA: San Andreas" was released on Oct. 26, 2004. To mark the landmark video games' 10th anniversary, Rockstar is holding a special online anniversary event which goes live all throughout Sunday on "Grand Theft Auto V's" online mode. The event comprises "GTA: San Andreas" Throwback Jobs, a limited-time playlist that includes fan-created missions, such as Dam Rider, Grove Sweet Grove and Gray Imports. Just like in previous "Grand Theft Auto" events, players can earn double the in-game cash and experience by participating in the throwback playlists.
Gamers in free mode can also get some perks. In particular, they're finding special crates dropping from the sky containing exclusive t-shirts from San Andreas' four radio stations, namely K-Rose, Bounce FM, K-DST and K-JAH. These also come with extra cash, weapons and various discounts on clothing, BMX bikes, bandanas and a number of accessories.
Rockstar is also holding a "Grand Theft Auto" Snapmatic photo contest, where users submit their best photo screenshots of "GTA: San Andreas" and compete for a prize pack of GTA-branded products worth $105. The deadline of submission of entries for the Snapmatic competition is at 11:59 P.M. Eastern Time. Additional guidelines for the photo contest can be found on Rockstar's Social Club website.
Moreover, Rockstar is making GTA: San Andreas available for Android and iOS on a big discount for only $3.99, along with its predecessors "GTA III" and "GTA: Vice City" for $2.99. All three titles have received mobile-friendly updates to these versions, including better controls and richer visuals. However, the cheap releases are being made to celebrate "GTA: San Andreas'" anniversary and will only be available until Nov. 9.
Lastly, "GTA: San Andreas" is scheduled for a re-release for the Xbox 360, with the new version set to include a 720p resolution, enhanced draw distance and achievement support.
"Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" is the seventh title in Rockstar's wildly successful "Grand Theft Auto" game series. Five months after its initial release for the PlayStation 2 in 2004, Rockstar announced that it has sold over 12 million copies of "GTA: San Andreas," easily making it the biggest selling video game for the console. In 2011, Rockstar announced that it had sold a total of 27.5 million copies of the game worldwide.
