Resident Evil 7 is the newest video game in the popular and long running franchise. The title is designed to bring the franchise back to its roots due to the challenges faced by Resident Evil 6. The new game, for the first time, will also support cross-saves between Xbox and Windows 10 PCs.
Cross-saves between the Xbox One version of the game and Windows 10 is quite interesting, but nothing new. Microsoft has pioneered this feature with its Xbox Play Anywhere program. However, what is not known at the moment is whether or not Resident Evil 7 supports the full Xbox Play Anywhere features.
The report was first released by Japanese website, DengekOnline, saying, "the Windows Store version can share play data with the Xbox One version." IGN also went on to say Capcom had confirmed this cross-save feature in a statement.
What Capcom is doing here is a good move, but what gamers want to know is if this game will be a traditional Xbox Play Anywhere title or not. For those who are wondering, Xbox Play Anywhere is more than just having the ability to cross-save. Once a player purchases a game from the Xbox One digitally, the same game (if available on the Windows Store) can be downloaded and played on the PC for free.
When it comes down to multiplayer, gamers can play co-op with their friends no matter what the platform is. Have a PC and your friends own Xbox One's? No problem, co-op multiplayer is a go. The games that take full advantage of these features are Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3 and more.
So far, only Xbox exclusive video games have supported Xbox Play Anywhere, so having Resident Evil 7 in the fold would surely prove that third-party developers are warming up to the idea of having their games purchased once on a single platform and played on another without any extra charges. Resident Evil 7 Not Exclusive To Microsoft Platforms
We should point out that Resident Evil 7 will not only be available on Windows 10 and Xbox One, but also on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro, and Steam. The game is also expected to support virtual reality on the PlayStation 4 systems via PSVR. However, there's no word if the PC versions will also support VR, but in our minds, this is unlikely.
The horror title is expected to hit store shelves come Jan. 24, 2017.
