Xbox One November update to bring forth background customization: First look

The Xbox One is looking ever so attractive with every passing month as Microsoft continues to release worthwhile updates for the system. The update for October is already released, so what about November? That's coming next month, and users should expect the ability to customize backgrounds.

Background customization is something fans have wanted for quite some time as it allows for fans to have more customization power over their Xbox One. From what we have seen from the leaked images, background customization is similar to how things are done in Windows 8 rather than Windows Phone.

In Windows 8, the image sits behind the live tiles, but in Windows Phone 8.1, the tiles become transparent to show more of the background. We would have preferred that look, but the Windows 8 way of doing things is fine as well.

We understand that users can use their own image to set background images or the little images that players get when they unlock an achievement. Furthermore, if a user doesn't want to add an image to the background, they can just change the color.

The whole thing is pretty much what is already available on Windows 8 and Windows Phone, so it should be a breeze to understand for folks already on one of those platforms.

By looking at the available images, we have to say we liked what we saw and can't wait for it to come out before the end of November. Several Xbox One users are already experiencing the background customization feature as they are a part of the beta program. It's the reason why we can see what it looks like so early.

So far, we have no idea what else Microsoft is aiming to add in the November update, but we hope another feature is in the pack that is just as substantial as background customization. If not, then fans of the system should be just fine with this single feature, while they wait patiently for what might come in the December update.

Chances are, the Microsoft development team might take a hiatus in December and return in January 2015.
