Blizzard announced a free weekend for Overwatch that will allow gamers to try out the massively popular multiplayer shooter and perhaps finally join its thriving player base right afterward.
The free weekend will give gamers on the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One the chance to jump into Overwatch, with Blizzard opening access to the full roster of the game's heroes and all its available maps.
The free Overwatch weekend will launch at 11 a.m. PT on Nov. 18 and last until 4 p.m. PT on Nov. 21 across all gameplay regions.
Gamers participating in the free weekend will also be able to access several different game modes, including Quick Play, Custom Games and Weekly Brawl.
Players will also be gaining levels, earning Loot Boxes and unlocking various in-game items. If players decide to buy their own copy of Overwatch after the free weekend, all the progress made during the free weekend will be carried over as long as they use the same Battle.net, PSN or Xbox Live account.
Requirements To Join The Overwatch Free Weekend
Interested gamers will need to download the free weekend client before the period starts, with the total download size being a somewhat large 12 GB.
Gamers on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will need to have active PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold memberships. Meanwhile, for gamers on the PC, they will also need to download the Battle.net client.
How To Download Overwatch Free Weekend Client
For gamers on the PlayStation 4, access the PlayStation Store and search for Overwatch. The search results will bring up the Overwatch Free Weekend client, which should then be downloaded.
For gamers on the Xbox One, access the Xbox One Store and similarly search for Overwatch. Players should then select Overwatch: Origins Edition and then click on the Free Trial option.
For gamers on the PC, they would first have to install the desktop app for Battle.net and either create a free account for the service or log in if they already have one. Once the Battle.net client is installed and launched, players should then click on the Overwatch icon at the left side, select their region and click on the Install option.
Will Sombra Be Available In The Overwatch Free Weekend?
For non-Overwatch players who have been hearing news about the game, you may know that Blizzard has just unveiled the newest character for the game in the hacker hero Sombra.
Sombra is now available on the Public Test Region for the PC version of Overwatch, where gamers have started formulating strategies to take advantage of her unique skills. Unfortunately, Sombra will not be playable in the Overwatch free weekend.
