The big secret that Blizzard has been working on over the past few months is connected to Sombra, the next character coming to Overwatch, with the company taking players on a frustrating ride through a lengthy augmented reality game. However, just as an image of Sombra was apparently inadvertently leaked on the official Blizzard website, another picture from a different popular Blizzard franchise was also discovered.
The image features a pair of what seems to be necromancers, one male and one female, as they stand over an army of the undead. The male necromancer is holding a dagger and a scythe, while the female necromancer has a skull floating over her hand.
The picture was found on Blizzard's online store, the same location where the Sombra image was found. Both images have since been taken down.
According to Eurogamer, the URL of the leaked image featured the word necromancer. Looking closely at the artwork, the signature of John Mueller, the art director of Blizzard, can also be seen at the lower left corner.
There is actually nothing on the picture that directly hints at the arrival of the necromancer class to Diablo 3. However, the style of the art fits that of the Diablo franchise, and the image is likely not connected to World of Warcraft, which just launched a new expansion and a new class, and Heroes of the Storm, which does not have male and female versions of characters.
The image could be a simple artwork that Mueller created out of boredom, but it could likely be hinting that the necromancer class, which was last seen in Diablo 2, is finally making its way to Diablo 3. When asked for a comment on the leaked picture, Blizzard did not give anything away.
"We have no announcements to make, but we're really excited about BlizzCon. Can't wait to see you guys there!" a representative for the company said.
The last expansion for Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls, arrived in March 2014. Among the additions included in the expansion was the Crusader class, and two years later, Blizzard could finally be introducing a new class to the still popular game.
There is also the possibility that necromancers will not be coming to Diablo 3, but instead, Blizzard will be making a much bigger announcement, and that is the arrival of Diablo 4. There are conspiracy theories that Blizzard might have a Diablo 4 announcement planned for BlizzCon, and necromancers will instead be heading to the new game instead of the current one.
