Blizzard continues to see important changes in its higher ranks as game director Josh Mosqueira confirmed that he is leaving the company.
A previous report hinted that Blizzard is looking for a talented game director for a new Diablo project, but this said nothing about the ex-game director's role in the company. However, a tweet from Mosqueira shed light on the subject and revealed that his time with Blizzard has come to a halt.
The gaming company told the media that Mosqueira's leave is far from random.
"Diablo III [is] in a good place at this point," Blizzard says.
This is important as it allowed Mosqueira to "pursue other opportunities with minimal impact to the team." Blizzard adds that his role could be filled by recruiting someone from within the company, but external applicants are welcome as well.
Back in 2013, Mosqueira took the place of Jay Wilson at the reins of Diablo III in a highly commended move. When Mosqueira joined the company, Diablo III was being chastised for its irritatingly low drop rates for items and real-world money spending that impeded the gameplay experience for dedicated fans who refused the pay-to-win system. His decisions led to significant improvements to the title, one of the most notable ones being the crafting of the Reaper of Souls expansion.
Last month, Wilson left Blizzard so that he can dedicate his time to his original passion, writing.
The two game directors are not the only seniors to leave Blizzard recently. Leonard Boyarsky, Diablo III's lead designer, also parted ways with the company earlier this year.
Pertaining to the job listing for the new game director, it is yet unclear whether the company aims to release Diablo IV, a new expansion for Diablo III, or is cooking up something else entirely.
The job description states that the selected candidate will work in the company's headquarters in Irvine, California.
As it was expected from such an important position, the candidate should holster "experience in creative direction, strong ability in system design," paired with "outstanding communications skills and a stellar track record of shipping AAA games."
Blizzard notes that the successful candidate has the chance to "lead the Diablo series into the future."
