Apple released iOS 10.1 for compatible devices on Monday, adding a portrait mode for the iPhone 7 Plus. Just a day later, Apple has also started rolling out updates for macOS Sierra and watch OS 3.
For Apple Watch owners, you can now download the latest OS, watchOS 3.1, today. The update comes one month after the public release of watchOS 3 and three rounds of beta releases before finally making it available. While the update doesn't come with major tweaks, it does focus on bringing performance improvements alongside quashed bugs.
The release notes state that the update includes a new option to replay bubble and full screen effects in the Messages app. Reduced motion is now also available when playing effects in Messages. A repetitive timer notification bug has also been fixed. Additionally, Apple Watch Series 2 previously had an issue where the device was inexplicably unable to fully charge. This has also been fixed. An issue where Activity rings disappear from the watch face was also ironed out. Force Touch options now function properly, unlike the previous time where an issue prevented it from working with some third-party apps.
To get watchOS 3.1, you need an iPhone running iOS 10. From the Apple Watch app on iPhone, go to "General," and then hit "Software update." The Apple Watch itself must have at least 50 percent battery and must be charging close to the iPhone used to update it. The update is available for all Apple Watch models.
The watchOS 3 was released back in September, days ahead of the release of Apple's flagship smartwatch, the Apple Watch Series 2.
Heading over to Macs, macOS Sierra 10.12.1 is also now available to download. According to Apple's official changelog, the update adds automatic smart album creations for images taken with the Depth Effect on iPhone 7 Plus.
Microsoft Office will also enjoy new compatibility improvements with iCloud Desktop and documents. Apple also fixed an issue where the Mail app fails to update when using a Microsoft Exchange account. An issue with the universal clipboard's incorrect pasting glitch was also ironed out, and reliability of Auto Unlock with Apple Watch has also been improved. The update also brings security and stability improvements for Apple's proprietary browser, Safari.
For Mac owners, assuming your device is compatible, you can head on over to the App Store and use the Software update function.
With the release of macOS Sierra 10.12.1, Apple appears to be amping up the pace of macOS Sierra updates, presumably because the company is rumored to be unveiling new MacBook refreshes this October. The new models will likely come with the most recent macOS Sierra update.
