Because of the Xbox One backward compatibility feature, fans get to play old titles, particularly those published for the Xbox 360, in the latest console. A recent announcement from Larry Hryb indicates that the list of ported games will again get expanded with the release of three of the most popular of Xbox 360 titles.
In a Twitter post, Hryb identified The Orange Box compilation, Joe Danger 2: The Movie and Galaga Legions as the latest titles to be playable on the Xbox One platform. What this means is that the game saves, add-ons and achievements at Xbox 360 will also be carried over to Xbox One for these titles.
Microsoft reportedly conducts a poll to determine which titles are included in the program. The most recent has yielded these three games. Xbox One owners can expect them to pop up in the Ready to Install section of the Xbox One Backward Compatibility game catalog.
The Orange Box is particularly interesting to some observers because it is not a game title but a huge game bundle from Valve. Reports reveal that it could come with more than 250 games and includes Half Life 2: Episode 2, Team Fortress 2 and Portal. Naturally, it garnered a huge number of votes. It reportedly got 40,000 in comparison to Galaga Legions and Joe Danger 2: The Movie, which both managed to snag more than a thousand fan votes.
Hryb, also known to Xbox fans as Major Nelson, has provided a complete list of titles supported by Xbox One Backward Compatibility. The list, which was last updated Oct. 20, now reflects the announced titles.
At this point, fans are still clamoring for new titles and Microsoft is only too happy to oblige them. Aside from confirmed titles, which include Bioshock 1 and 2 as well as Bioshock Infinite, the tech company has also stated that it is currently working on still-unidentified big projects. Microsoft appears to have struck pay dirt here as the feature serves as a competitive advantage to the rival platform, PlayStation 4. The company has been justified by launching the service for free.
"Xbox One Backward Compatibility is free and allows you to play select Xbox 360 games you already own on Xbox One," the Xbox team said in an official statement.
The feature has a paid service called Xbox Live Gold, which is not required in order to use the backward compatibility feature. However, it does offer several perks such as the ability to play in an online multiplayer setting.
