Dodge has announced the price of its 2015 Charger Hellcat, with a starting price of $63,995, including the $1,700 gas-guzzler charge.
While that may seem like a lot of money, with a 707-horsepower V-8 engine, the Dodge Charger Hellcat has a lot to offer for the price.
"The noise this thing makes is equally monstrous. At start-up, the Hellcat quite literally roars to life, startling small children and eliciting hard looks from the straitlaced passers-by," said Antuan Goodwin in a review of the Charger Hellcat. "The engine settles then into a pronounced, but comfortable burble that fills the cabin even at moderate speeds. I found myself wondering why Dodge even bothered to put a stereo in this car when you can barely hear it at 35 mph."
All of the Dodge Charger models received a rather thorough refresh for 2015, with the entry-level Charger SE offering a Pentastar six- and eight-speed automatic transmission engine. It also includes a 5.0-inch Connect touchscreen and 7-inch driver information display. The Charger SE comes in at a total of $27,995.
The next model up is the Charger SXT which adds Uconnect Access for a digital, connected hub, 18-inch aluminum wheels, and LED fog lights. It also includes an infotainment system upgrade for an extra $2,000.
Then there's the Dodge Charger R/T, which is now equipped with the eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic standard transmission. It also includes a rear spoiler and 20-inch wheels. The Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack adds 20 x 9.5-inch wheels with 15.4-inch Brembo brakes and SRT high-performance adaptive damping suspension. This pack costs a total of $47,385.
The Charger SRT Hellcat, however, is the king of the pack. According to Dodge, this is the fastest and most powerful sedan ever built and with 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, it certainly could be true.
"The SRT Hellcat is powered by a 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V-8 that outputs a stated 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque and can be best described, in a word, as monstrous," continued Goodwin in his review. "It is loud, it is angry, and it is extremely powerful."
The Charger Hellcat goes from 0-60 mph in only 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 199 mph. But is the car worth the dough that it costs? Reviewers say yes.
"That's pretty expensive for a Dodge, but the price tag comes with the promise of owning one of the meanest modern machines on the road today and a future classic," said Goodwin. "There simply isn't anything like the Hellcat."
