Captain Price. "Soap" MacTavish. Ghost. The three members of Task Force 141 have become some of the most iconic heroes in gaming, thanks to the huge success of Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare trilogy on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
Turns out they're pretty famous in Infinity Ward's upcoming Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare as well. A new poster for the game appears to confirm that the Modern Warfare trilogy and Infinite Warfare take place in the same in-game universe thanks to a direct reference to Captain Price and his legendary team.
Infinite Warfare's campaign takes players to the future, where they're given command of the spaceship Retribution in Earth's battle against the revenge-driven Settlement Defense Front. According to the poster for the game providing more details about the ship, the Retribution is labeled as a SWC-141 class vessel. "SWC" stands for "Space Warship Carrier," in case you were wondering.
The "141" designation number isn't mere coincidence. The poster (via Blade_151 on Twitter) explicitly states the numerical designation of the warship was recommended by the Russian Federation as a way to commemorate the actions of Task Force 141, specifically the group saving Russian President Boris Vorshevsky during the events of Modern Warfare 3.
Might there be more references to Modern Warfare hidden within Infinite Warfare's single-player campaign? Perhaps Task Force 141 is still around in some form? There are still a lot of unknowns, but it's cool to see Infinity Ward connect its older series with its latest title, even if they have little in common on the surface.
Of course, this is hardly the first time the Call of Duty franchise has done this. Treyarch's various Call of Duty games are all connected, starting with the World War II shooter World At War and going all the way up to the futuristic Black Ops III.
Alongside the release of Infinite Warfare on Nov. 4 for PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One, those who purchase the Legacy or Legacy Pro editions of the game will be able to experience the accomplishments of Task Force 141 all over again (or for the first time) in Modern Warfare Remastered. PlayStation 4 gamers can even start playing the game's single-player right now. Just don't plan on being able to play Modern Warfare Remastered without also buying Infinite Warfare - at least for the time being.
