Following the recently released 4K gameplay trailer for the upcoming Titanfall 2, Respawn Entertainment has announced that the widely beloved Angel City map will be the first post-launch map that the devs are set to release on December.
In June, the studio announced that it will release all maps and modes for free after the game's launch, to the delight of its fans. The announcement stemmed from the studio's desire to "build and sustain a vibrant, thriving community that can always play together."
The studio first announced in August that Angel City will be the first post-launch map for Titanfall 2. The original blog post has since been updated to confirm a December release date for the map. It will feature a fully mastered Angel City, one of the first 15 maps available in the first Titanfall game.
"We can't wait to see how the community uses all the exciting new Pilot and Titan gameplay mechanics we're bringing to Titanfall 2 on Angel City," Drew McCoy, producer of Titanfall 2, said.
The map, a favorite among many Titanfall players, consists mostly of an urban landscape, tight streets, indoor locations and rooftops, which are strategic locations for high-altitude combat.
A copy of Titanfall 2 entitles the player to the free Angel City map, along with all the post-launch maps the studio plans to release after December. Those who want to access the map three days earlier than its intended release will have to preorder any edition of the game from any retailer. Additionally, those who preorder will receive a Nitro Scorch pack, which includes a Warpaint and a callsign.
Aside from post-launch maps, the studio is also set to reveal more cosmetic items and DLC in the coming months. However, the studio noted that extra cosmetic options and DLC aren't prerequisite to enjoying Titanfall 2 in its entirety. The studio had to learn this the hard way with the first Titanfall game, when it released a variety of maps and post-game content that came with a price. The paywall discouraged some players from purchasing extra content, and Titanfall's fanbase staggered. For the sequel, the studio seems to have learned from this hiccup, deciding to release post-launch maps to everyone free of charge.
In August, Respawn Entertainment let players be part of a technical trial run for Titanfall 2. Players were able to test out three new modes, a slew of new guns, abilities and Titans. New weapons populated every weapon category in the sequel, alongside more customization options compared with the first game.
Titanfall 2 will hit stores on Oct. 28 and will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
