If you own the Lumia 650 you will be pleased to learn that the Windows 10 Mobile-powered handset is now receiving an over-the-air firmware update, which brings the much-awaited Double Tap To Wake feature on board.
The Lumia 650 got support for the Double Tap To Wake feature earlier in September; however, the update was not available for several Lumia 650 users worldwide.
"01078.00042.16352.50xxx firmware update (September 2016) for Lumia 550/650. The availability of this update may depend on your phone model, region or network service provider," noted Microsoft support at the time.
The software update for the Lumia 650, however, is rolling out now in the UK according to a report from MSPoweruser.
"The update wasn't available over-the-air for many Lumia 650 users all around the world, but it seems like users in the UK have started receiving the feature with the new OTA update on their Lumia 650," notes the publication.
The Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL already have support for Double Tap To Wake since July and will now have sibling Lumia 650 giving it company.
The firmware update for the Lumia 650 not only brings the Double Tap To Wake functionality, but also improvements to the Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth connectivity, as well as improvements to stability and reliability.
The OTA update also brings in its folds enhancements to the Lumia 650's camera such as better video quality and image, as well as enhanced auto focus. The update also fixes the issue that let the slow motion capture feature skip frames on some devices.
There is also a fix for the Wi-Fi connection dropping suddenly, as well as the Wi-Fi scan not throwing up results at times. The voice call audio would previously get scrambled on some Lumia 650's, but thanks for the update this too is rectified. There are also improvements to the device's audio quality.
Users in the UK will also welcome the news that the update brings a fix for the issue which triggered network loss occasionally. The update also brings improvements to the Lumia 650's cellular connectivity.
While consumers in the U.S. who own the Microsoft smartphone may have to wait a tad longer for the update to hit their Lumia 650, the fact that the UK variant of the handset is getting the OTA update is a positive sign and signals its release in the U.S. is imminent.
If you are in the UK and own the Lumia 650 you can manually check to see if the update has hit your handset. Navigate to Settings > Update and Security > Check for Updates. You will then see "MICROSOFTMDG Update for Windows Phone."
Install this update, and to enable Double Tap To Wake, go to Personalization option in Settings and then Lockscreen, Here you will see the feature, simply enable it and you're good to go.
