In The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) finds herself in District 13, being asked to function as the symbol of the rebellion. But after all she's been through — surviving two consecutive Hunger Games — District 13's leader President Coin (Julianne Moore) fears that Katniss is too broken to serve the rebels' needs.
In this new trailer, Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman) suggests to Coin that they send Katniss back to the ruins of District 12 to see the destruction there for herself. This will "make it personal for her," as he says. Meanwhile, a sorrowful track by Lorde plays in the background.
Fans of Suzanne Collins' books know that Katniss' tour of District 12 is how Mockingjay opens, but it's interesting to see how the rebellion's leaders justify allowing her to go back there. Even this they find a way to use as a means of manipulating her to serve their purposes.
The moment where this trailer ends is the same ominous beat that the book's first chapter ends on.
Mockingjay Part 1 will be in theaters November 21, 2014. Director Francis Lawrence knocked Catching Fire out of the park, so expectations are high for a repeat success.
