A BioShock fan has designed a real-life Vigor Bottle that is creating quite a stir on social media.
Ernesto Moreno, the fan who designed the "Parasite" Vigor Bottle, created the spidery-looking top for the bottle after the folks at BioShock —under the guise of the fictional Fink Manufacturing— asked fans to design their own take on the Vigor Bottle in August, asking fans "What powers would you put in a bottle?"
The team at BioShock were inundated with several design ideas of Vigors as fans sent in contributions on Twitter and Facebook. Some elaborated on the idea they had for the Vigor Bottle, whereas some even designed one of their own. One such bottle was the one from Moreno which bowled over the team. The "Parasite" design from Moreno featured a spider that was sinking its fangs into a bottle that was appropriately blood red.
Looking at Moreno's creation, 2K Community team's resident sculptor Jason Babler decided that they needed to breathe life into the design template and make it the real deal.
The team contacted Moreno and pressed him on additional details surrounding his idea. However, they did not tell him that Babler was working on bringing the "Parasite" to life in secrecy and that is how the folks at 2K Community brought the Vigor Bottle to life.
Sculpting the bottle, however, was not an easy task for Babler as he set about using armature wire, PVC pipe, brown clay and Magic Sculpt epoxy to give form to the "Parasite."
"Sculpting the parasite was fun, but I intentionally deviated a bit from Ernesto's Design. While Ernesto had more a cartoon feel, and a smooth, cell-shaded illustration style, I wanted to imagine what it would have looked like in the game, BioShock Infinite," says Babler.
On Monday, Sept. 26, the official Twitter account of BioShock tweeted that they had converted Moreno's winning creation into a real-world bottle.
This is not the first time BioShock and 2K Community have come together to convert a creation from a fan into something real. In the past, a poster design for Old Man Winter — a new BioShock Infinite Vigor — ended up in a game when the DLC Burial at Sea released.
