'Zoids' Might Be Making A Comeback If A New Teaser Website Is To Be Believed

Zoids, originally a model kit toyline launched in 1983 that later evolved into a manga, anime and video game franchise, hasn't been heard from in a while.

The franchise found success in North America thanks to Cartoon Network's Toonami anime block featuring Zoids shows during the mid-2000s, but since then the franchise about giant animal mechs waging war has largely gone dormant.

That looks like it's finally about to change. A new teaser website from Zoids rights holder Takara Tomy (via Anime News Network) states "A new ZOIDS project has started!" along with the words "Coming Soon" in English. The site currently shows an image of the franchise's iconic lion "Liger" Zoid in the background, as a male soldier with a pistol crouches in the foreground. Dramatic music plays over the image, which sports a more realistic look than that of earlier Zoids anime projects.

It's worth noting that it's not exactly clear what the image is teasing. Is it a new Zoids video game? A new anime? A CGI film? The teaser site doesn't specify. If it is an anime series, it will be the first Zoids anime since 2006's Zoids Genesis. There have been a total of four Zoids anime series over the years, the first being Zoids: Chaotic Century, an adaptation of the original Zoids manga that ran from 1999-2001.

The last Zoids console video game, Zoids Assault, released in 2007 for the Xbox 360. That game featured a more realistic art style that looks in many ways comparable to that of the unnamed Zoids project being teased, but it's still unclear whether or not fans should expect a new Zoids video game, anime or something else entirely. The teaser site makes no mention of when fans may learn more about the project either, so fans will simply have to keep their eyes peeled for more information in the coming months.

In other anime news, it was recently confirmed that the popular anime One-Punch Man will be receiving a second season. There's little information regarding that series either, as fans still don't know when the second season will air, how many episodes it will run or what manga arcs it may cover. You can read more about the road to One-Punch Man season two here.
