Pokémon Go just received another update in the form of version 1.9.0 for iOS and version 0.39.0 for Android devices, and while it's not much, it should make trainers who managed to snag a Pokémon Go Plus accessory happy.
The difficult-to-track-down accessory for the game allows users to find and catch Pokémon without having to stare at their phone screen all day. With this new update, players will also be able to use the game's incense item through Pokémon Go Plus in order to lure Pokémon to their location and then proceed to catch them, all without having to use a phone.
The accessory released on Sept. 16 and is, unfortunately, already incredibly hard to track down. Added functionality will only make the devices even more sought-after, so here's hoping more of the accessories arrive in stores soon. They currently retail for $34.99.
The latest update to the game also adds the ability for trainers to see the location where any given Pokémon was caught. The location information can be found on a given Pokémon's stat screen. This should help in determing hot spots for certain monsters, especially if you don't remember specifically where a certain Pokémon was caught.
It's not a huge update by any means, but it's nice to see Niantic rolling out smaller, more frequent updates alongside larger updates like the recent Buddy system. The developer states in the game's patch notes on Facebook that it has "some exciting features and changes coming soon," but doesn't elaborate on what those new features or changes may be.
Many players are still waiting for Niantic to reintroduce the game's Pokémon tracking system, which was removed several months ago for not accomplishing what Niantic wanted. The game currently has no real way to determine how far away any given Pokémon appearing in the "nearby" section of the app is, which makes hunting down specific pocket monsters far more of a hassle than it should be.
Niantic has given indications that it is currently looking into how it might improve tracking in the game. If fans are lucky, maybe it's one of the "coming soon" features mentioned in Niantic's latest Facebook post.
