From Software, the developer of the popular Dark Souls franchise, is said to be currently working on at least three new games. With that many projects in the pipeline, what does the future hold for Dark Souls?
In an interview with IGN at the Tokyo Game Show, From Software president Hidetaka Miyazaki gave hints on the three games that the studio is working on.
Armored Core And A Weird Game
According to Miyazaki, the developer is working on a dark fantasy game and a mech game, with one of the new titles probably to comply with what the fans expect in a straightforward manner.
The third game that From Software is working on will likely be "a little bit weird," according to Miyazaki, adding that upon announcing the title, he expects that fans will say "Oh, what the hell is this very weird game that Miyazaki has created?"
When Miyazaki was asked if the mech game was a new entry to the robot franchise Armored Core, Miyazaki replied by confirming that From Software is already working on a new Armored Core game, but no further details were provided.
An interview with Kotaku confirmed that From Software is already in the early stages of development for the new Armored Core game, though Miyazaki refused to state how early they are in the process.
As to the weird game that Miyazaki mentioned, he added that he meant the genre of the title that From Software will be trying could be seen as a little weird, along with the actual content of the game. No further details were provided on the title, so gamers will just have to wait for an official announcement to see just how weird the game really is.
The Future Of Dark Souls
For Dark Souls fans, the statement made by Miyazaki late last year that Dark Souls III will be the last game in the franchise would likely not have been taken well.
"For me, Dark Souls III is the end," Miyazaki said in the interview with Kotaku. However, he then goes to add that this does not mean the end of the Dark Souls franchise.
"If someone other than myself, like another staff member, wants to make a Dark Souls, then I don't want to deny others from making future installments," Miyazaki stated, opening what was once a closed door for future Dark Souls games.
As to how soon the next Dark Souls game will be released, fans of the franchise might have to wait for a while. With the many projects in the pipeline for From Software, it seems that the developer is taking a break from Dark Souls. However, it is nice to know that there is still a chance that a Dark Souls game will be launched in the future.
