Each generation of Pokémon games has had version exclusive pocket monsters all the way back to the originals, and Pokémon Sun and Moon are no exception. Over the past few weeks, Nintendo has been lifting the curtain on the future of the franchise, and what it has revealed so far shows that there will be plenty of differences between Sun and Moon.
Owners of Pokémon Sun get exclusive access to the brand new Pokémon Passimian, a fighting type ape creature that uses a ball to battle foes. Those who opt for Pokémon Moon, on the other hand, will be able to catch Oranguru, a normal and psychic type pocket monster.
The pocket monster known as Rockruff will also have game specific evolutions. In Pokémon Sun, Rockruff will evolve into the coyote-like Lycanroc midday form, while Pokémon Moon will see the creature transform into Lycanroc midnight form. The creatures are both rock types, but they look drastically different and sport different abilities.
That's not all that was announced today, either. A new trailer for the game (which you can watch below) also confirms that players will be able to customize the look of their avatar through purchasing new clothes or even getting a haircut. Players can also groom their Pokémon using the Pokémon Refresh feature. Last but not least, two new z-moves have been revealed: one for series mascot Pikachu and another for the always-adorable Eevee. In Pikachu's ultimate attack, the electric rodent flings itself into the air before crashing back down into the ground in the form of a ball of lightning. Eevee's z-move sees the adorable pocket monster summon all of its various evolutions for back-up.
It seems like every week, more new and exciting features for Pokémon Sun and Moon are revealed. Last week came news that both Sun and Moon would each receive an exclusive and mysterious "Ultra Beast," along with game specific Alola versions of classic pocket monsters like Rattata and Raticate. Last week also saw the debut of the Pokémon Generations anime, a series of shorts premiering each week on the official Pokémon YouTube page. You can watch the first two episodes here.
Pokémon Sun and Moon release on the Nintendo 3DS on Nov. 18.
