Nintendo only just announced Pokémon Generations a few days ago, but fans can already watch the first two episodes of the series. Both episode one and two are currently live on the official Pokémon YouTube channel.
The series is set to be a collection of anime shorts focused on retelling events from the various Pokémon games. These first two episodes do just that. Episode one, "The Adventure," begins just like the original Game Boy Pokémon games did before transforming from pixels into animation. The first episode serves as an introduction to the idea of the series, as it shows trainer Red and Pikachu on an adventure across all the various regions of the Pokémon world. Along the way, they go through a number of encounters players of the games will likely remember.
Episode two, "The Chase," is far different. It takes a key event from the Pokémon Red and Blue games and tells it from a completely different perspective: that of a police detective hunting for Team Rocket leader Giovanni. Fans get a glimpse of how a police SWAT team works in the world of Pokémon, as the police use various pocket monsters as a means to breach the Viridian City gym. Magnemite hacks open doors for the police, while Machamp and Arcanine simply break down walls for the SWAT teams to breach through.
In the end, however, it's all for nothing. Giovanni is defeated by the player character in Pokémon Red and Blue, and the police force shown in the short arrive shortly after that fateful battle.
So far, the series is off to a strong start. It looks to be delivering on its promise of exploring Pokémon history in a new way. A new episode of the series is set to release each and every week from now until Dec. 23, 2016 as a means of celebrating 20 years of Pokémon. You can check out both episodes below.
The next two installments in the series, Pokémon Sun and Moon, are set to arrive on Nintendo 3DS on Nov. 18. Meanwhile, Pokémon GO continues to do well, with a new update to the game allowing trainers to select a "buddy" Pokémon. You can read more about the latest update here.
