Pokémon fever is at an all time high, which is fitting given that 2016 is the franchise's 20th anniversary. Alongside the release of Pokémon Go and the upcoming release of Pokémon Sun and Moon, Nintendo has revealed yet another way the company is celebrating two decades of Pokémon.
Pokémon Generations a series of five-minute anime shorts that will focus on key moments from the Pokémon video game franchise. The shorts will debut throughout the year, with each one focusing on a different generation of Pokémon games.
The trailer for the series already teases a few iconic moments that will be familiar to those who have played the games. There's the battle against Red Gyarados from Pokémon Gold and Silver, as well as the showdown with Regigigas in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2. The three legendary dog Pokémon are glimsped, and also teased at the very end of the trailer is the heated rivalry battle between Gary Oak and trainer Red from the original Pokémon Red and Blue. The trailer promises to present the events and the world of Pokémon through new eyes, saying "every generation has a story to tell."
It's not all that different from Pokémon Origins, another anime series from Nintendo that retold the events of Pokémon Red and Blue. Nintendo hasn't specified when the first short will air, but fans will be able to watch them all for free on the official Pokémon YouTube channel when they do release. You can watch the trailer below.
Pokémon Generations is just another reason why it's a great time to be a Pokémon fan. The newly released buddy update for Pokémon Go makes the game even better than before (and includes a fun new Easter egg to boot), while new information regarding Pokémon Sun and Moon continues to come each and every week. Nintendo's pocket monster catching franchise has never been stronger, and the episodes of Pokémon Generations will hopefully go a long way towards showing younger gamers all the key in-game moments that helped make the franchise into the massive success it is today.
