Twitter has improved its service to make it more easier to use. Chances are, many users might not even realize any changes have been made, but things have been done, and while not significant, it's good for the platform regardless.
Back in May of this year, Twitter announced that it was planning to improve the character count of your tweets. By now we should all know that users have a 140-character count to work with when sending tweets. This won't be changing any time soon.
So what have changed, you wonder?
Well, in the past, several things could have eaten into the character count. For example, retweeting is one of the big problems. Whenever the user retweets, the tweet of the other person takes up space, giving the user less characters to work with.
Not only that, but media content such as videos, photos and polls take up space as well. We're not certain if emojis still use up the 140 characters, but we do know links still do. Hopefully in the future Twitter will do something about this, but for now, things are going well.
The company is also ditching the "@" format, but worry not, hashtags will always be a thing seeing as the format is so popular, and not only among those who use Twitter. It's also used quite frequently on Facebook.
Twitter has stated on several occasions that these changes are all about simplifying the platform for current users and the new ones who might find it difficult to use.
The changes are important because the platform's user growth has stagnated, and as such, the company is not making the amount of money it think it should.
Rumors in the past have come up claiming Twitter is looking for the right company to acquire it, but nothing concrete has been said in regards. The most recent claim comes from a report from Fortune.
Despite the problems, Twitter is still very much an important entity. The company recently streamed an NFL game live for the first time. It was a huge success, and we expect more of these things to happen as time goes by.
Twitter also teamed up with Facebook to remove fake news and hoaxes online. If you're a regular user of both platforms, Facebook especially, you should come across several fake news and hoaxes on a regular basis. It can be a problem for users who are unable to tell the fake from what is actually real.
