Huawei has just rolled out a new video ad for its latest MateBook 2-in-1 Windows 10 tablet, and the clip takes a jab at the iPad Pro "I'm a computer" commercial.
The video depicts the MateBook as joining a party where Apple's iPad Pro and Microsoft's Surface Pro 4 are already hanging out. The MateBook congratulates the iPad Pro for its keyboard, not forgetting to casually drop the fact that it, too, comes with its optional keyboard, fingerprint scanner and stylus, and that it relies on an Intel Core CPU for processing power. In a light tone, the MateBook jokes that it weighs less than the iPad Pro.
In response, the Surface Pro 4 welcomes Huawei's 2-in-1 tablet PC, while the iPad Pro is vexed and says that it's no longer in a celebratory mood.
Huawei's campaign follows the trend set by Microsoft a few weeks ago, when the Redmond company rolled out promotional ads for Surface gadgets that roasted the MacBook Air. Not only did Huawei fall in line with Surface's ad, but it actually joined the setting of the last 2-in-1 from Microsoft.
Apple was expected to launch a new iPad or MacBook this year, and refusing to do so brought some criticism toward the company. Apple loyalists and investors looked with promise toward the company, in the hope of getting some news about upcoming releases.
That is why the new Huawei MateBook decided to compare itself, with some bullying, to the previous edition of iPad Pro. If Apple had released a 2016 variant of its commended 2-in-1, Huawei would have used that as a basis for comparison.
Huawei MateBook vs Apple iPad Pro: Specs Compared
In the new ad, the Huawei MateBook enumerated its special features. Not only does the 2-in-1 offer lighter weight than Apple's similar device, but Huawei is proud of its fingerprint sensor. What is more, the gadget comes with Windows 10 pre-installed, offering a full range of support for productivity apps.
Keep in mind that, in opposition to the Surface Pro 4, the MateBook only has one USB C port. This means that all the connections of the 2-in-1 from Huawei depend on the single port.
Globally, the MateBook resembles the Surface Pro 4 in more than one way, and it is even gunning for the same market niche as Microsoft's tablet-computer.
"The new style of business," Huawei dubs the MateBook on its official site.
Should you want to invest in a Huawei MateBook, you can snatch one from the Microsoft Store for a price point of $699. Keep in mind that the offer comes with a free keyboard (worth $129) for customers who order until Sept. 18, so you may want to hurry up.
