The numbers are in, and it looks like Apple fans prefer the iPhone 7 Plus to the standard iPhone 7 and want to see them in Black or Jet Black colors rather than in Rose Gold, Gold or Silver.
To start things off, it should be cleared up that the data is based on the electronic receipts of about 32,000 customers who preordered the Cupertino brand's flagship during the first 48 hours it rolled out.
Before getting started, it should be mentioned that the data comes from Slice Intelligence, a research company that keeps tabs on the electronic receipts of approximately 4.2 million consumers in the United States.
Now that that's out of the way, here's what went down in Apple's market:
iPhone 7 Plus Now More Popular Than iPhone 7
As a milestone of sorts, more consumers preordered the iPhone 7 Plus compared with those who chose the iPhone 7 for the first time.
According to the data, 55 percent of the shoppers picked the iPhone 7 Plus, while 45 percent went for the regular iPhone 7. For last year's model, the 4.7-inch variants triumphed over their larger counterparts — the iPhone 6 at 65 percent versus the iPhone 6 Plus at 35 percent, and the iPhone 6s at 59 percent versus the iPhone 6s Plus at 41 percent.
This turn of events in the trend highly likely because of the dual-camera setup that only the iPhone 7 Plus has. Just to be clear on that, Apple opted not to include that configuration in the standard iPhone 7.
The Buyers Are Mostly Apple Fans
Slice Intelligence's data also reveals that 55.9 percent of the customers who purchased the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have gotten ahold of an older iPhone before, from 2014 to today. It continues to show that since 2014, 34 percent of the consumers haven't bought a smartphone, 2.1 percent moved from Samsung, 0.6 percent switched from LG and 0.5 percent jumped from Motorola.
With No Space Gray Color Option, Black And Jet Black Are Where It's At
Without the Space Gray in the mix, the king of the color-option mountain is Black with 46 percent of the shoppers choosing it above all else. Coming in second place is Jet Black at 23 percent. As for the rest, Rose Gold clocks in at 15 percent, Gold at 9 percent and Silver at 8 percent.
It's worth pointing out that the Jet Black models quickly sold out, according to Apple. That means many of the consumers may have had to choose other colors instead, and 23 percent could be far from the potential number that the variant could've garnered. On that note, shipments of that particular version are expected to arrive this November.
The Most Favored Storage Option Isn't Always The Biggest
Since the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s, the people's choice has always been the 64 GB option. That didn't change for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus either, as the 32 GB variant stands at 14 percent and the 256 GB at 19, while the 128 GB version towers over the two at 67 percent.
To boil things down, Apple fans love to see bigger screens — or dual cameras — on their iPhones, and they want their smartphones clad in Black or Jet Black with just enough capacity.
