Nintendo Unveils New 'Pokémon Sun' And 'Moon' 3DS XL That Features The Legendaries Solgaleo And Lunala

Can't get enough of Pokémon collectibles? Nintendo's new handheld may temporarily satiate your hunger.

In correlation with the upcoming Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon games, Nintendo has announced the new Nintendo 3DS XL game system that is inspired by the two games. The limited-edition portable console system features legendary Pokémon Solgaleo and Lunala over its black finish.

Nintendo will roll out the 3DS XL handheld console system for a $199.99 SRP on Oct. 28, which is three weeks prior to Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon's release date. Both Pokémon games will be available starting Nov. 18.

"This year marks the 20th anniversary of the beloved Pokémon series and people have never been talking about Pokémon more," says Nintendo of America's Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Doug Bowser. He went on to comment that playing Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon on the upcoming handheld console is the best way in which fans can showcase their love for the game series.

It is important to note that while the handheld's theme was inspired by the aforementioned Pokémon games, neither the Pokémon Sun nor Pokémon Moon will be bundled with it. Both games are sold separately.

For those who are looking for better deals on both games, Nintendo suggests the Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon dual pack, which will sell for $79.99. Aside from the games themselves, the pack also comes with two codes for unlocking a total of 200 Poké Balls — 100 for each code.

Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon are the latest installments to the seventh generation of the Pokémon role-playing game series. Developed by Game Freak, both games take place on the islands of Alola, which is inspired by islands that make up Hawaii.

But while both games have the same setting, they will be half a day apart. Pokémon Moon will be set 12 hours ahead of Pokémon Sun.

Both games will have new features such as Poké Ride, which grants the ability to ride various Pokémon. There's also a fresh battle system that the developer calls Battle Royal, along with additional Z moves as well.

Another positive thing about both games is they are compatible with Pokémon Bank. Hence, Pokémon caught in Pokémon Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, X and Y, as well the virtual console versions of Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow, will be transferable to the upcoming games.

Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon will be released exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS handheld console.
