Apple Music for Android got released on the Google Play Store almost 10 months ago, but the popularity of the app surges by the week.
A recent count shows that Apple Music for Android topped 10 million downloads on Google's application portal. To be specific, the app amassed a total number of installs between 10 million and 50 million. A few days ago, the numbers showed the app sitting at between 5 million and 10 million.
On average, 1 million users downloaded the app each month since its release. This is far from stellar, considering that Apple Music is free for use during the first three months and the Android ecosystem is home to about 1 billion users.
However, Apple can count this number as a victory, as the notorious rivalry between Android and iOS usually prevents loyalists from each side from tapping into the potentially great apps created by the other.
Apple Music landed on Android last year in November. Four months prior, the service premiered on the Apple iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. For the Android version, the app sports a design and features that closely resemble those on the iOS variant.
Apple Music for Android exited beta stage in August this year.
At the WWDC 2016 event, Apple announced that its streaming music service was adopted by 15 million subscribers with paid accounts. To put it in perspective, the dominant player in the industry, Spotify, banked on 30 million paying subscribers during a similar timeframe.
Apple Music for Android was updated in May, which allowed users to upgrade their Individual Membership to a Family Membership, enabling six family members to enjoy Apple Music together. An Individual Membership to the service costs $9.99 per month, while a Family Membership asks users to shell out $14.99. There is also a Student Membership option available at only $4.99 per month.
Those who like to make a one-time payment for a long-term subscription should know that Apple has their interest in mind, as well. With a 12-month gift card, users may pay $99 for a full year of Apple Music. This brings the monthly subscription fee to $8.25, granting an 18 percent savings when compared to a month-by-month subscription.
Apple device owners will see the app getting a total revamping in iOS 10. The most noteworthy improvements to Apple Music are the way tracks are organized and the improved design that puts large and bold text at the forefront.
Users may download Apple Music for Android on Google Play. Keep in mind that the device you install it on must have Android 4.3 or newer.
