Every year, a new Madden NFL football game releases, and every year, players are treated to some frustrating and occasionally hilarious glitches. This latest glitch in the newly-released Madden NFL 17 is a little bit of both, and it all revolves around touchdowns.
Touchdowns, of course, are the primary way of scoring points in football. You run or pass the ball down the field with the hope of getting a player with the ball into the end zone. Duh. So, what happens when Madden gets confused about which end zone is which? A whole lot of undeserved touchdowns.
Imagine this Madden NFL 17 scenario, if you will. You're down by three. Six seconds on the clock. You decide to go for the game-tying field goal. The field goal falls short, but that's not all. It also falls into the hands of a player on the other team standing in the end zone. Suddenly, the commentators exclaim that your opponent has just scored a touchdown. Out of all the possible outcomes, the other team scoring a touchdown in their own end zone shouldn't be one of them. That's not how football works, but that's exactly what happens in this video regardless.
However, it's not just when kicking a field goal that the glitch happens. It can happen on kick-offs and punt returns as well. If the other team happens to catch a kick-off or punt in the end zone, it can score an automatic touchdown. There truly are no words for it other than astounding, hilarious and sad.

It's baffling that this glitch is even possible. Of all the glitches that could come out of a football game, one in which the game gets confused about which end zone is which seems like it should be one that the developers put extra effort into avoiding. How did such a glaringly obvious problem get through play-testing? It seems like more than a few players have run across the glitch, so it's not like it's an isolated, one-off incident. This is game-breaking and has the potential to ruin the fun of more than a few players if the glitch happens to occur during an important game.
Still, it's pretty funny. Not as funny as Madden NFL 15's tiny player glitch, but still funny — as long as you're the one benefiting from it. Otherwise, it's one of the worst Madden glitches in recent memory.
