Facebook Messenger isn't the only social media app where users can play addicting sports games like basketball or soccer. Snapchat now has a game as well, the first-of-its-kind multi-level game that is playable directly on the platform.
Snapchat's first in-app game celebrates the No. 1 ranked woman in singles tennis, Serena Williams. Titled Serena Williams' Match Point, the video game was unveiled by Gatorade on Monday, Aug. 29, which is also the first day of the U.S. Open. Williams is expected to break a record despite an early loss at the Olympics this summer.
Gatorade launched Serena Williams' Match Point to commemorate the athlete's career. The game can be found through ESPN Discover on Snapchat as well as at SerenaMatchPoint.com.
Snapchat users start by swiping right to reach the Discover section and tap on ESPN. After tapping the screen, an ad for Serena Williams' Match Point will appear among the content. Swipe the screen up to access the game from the ad, and then tap to start playing.
The 8-bit game features 22 different levels of tennis to signify all of the 22 Grand Slam singles titles Williams has won throughout the past 17 years of her professional career. Level 23 will then unlock on the day of the Women's Finals, Sept. 10, when Williams may make history if she grabs the title.
Users simply tap to serve the ball, and then tap left or right to hit the ball, depending on the direction. Players just have to make sure not to tap too late — if they miss, they will have to serve again. They are given three balls for the serve. If they use up all of the balls, they fail the level and are taken back to the last checkpoint.
Serena Williams' Match Point has what it takes to be as addicting as the Facebook Messenger games, perfect for playing on the go between viewing Stories. Those looking to beat their score might want to try the game on their desktop via the game's website, with the controls being the same besides clicking to serve and hit the ball.
Tennis fans can watch Williams go for her 23rd title win by tuning in to coverage on ESPN.
Williams has a long history with Gatorade, most recently starring in a new ad alongside Olympic running champion Usain Bolt that shows the athletes consuming the sports drink to fuel their workouts.
