Apple September Event Expectations: 2 iPhone 7 Models, Apple Watch 2, iOS 10 And More

Now that September is near, Apple is about to hold its big annual event, and to be exact, it's expected to kick off on Sept. 7.

While the Cupertino brand has more or less kept mum about what's in store, there are some products that made it out to the public by way of leaks and whatnot. Based on those, here are some that may be revealed at the grand occasion.

iPhone 7

The iPhone 7 — or the iPhone 6 SE or whatever it's going to be called — will headline the whole shindig, of course. It's believed that two models will make an appearance: a 4.7-inch version and the 5.5-inch Plus variant.

The 5.8-inch iPhone 7 Pro? Well, it's said to have been scrapped because it would have been redundant. More on that in a bit.

iPhone 7 Cameras

To start things off, the iPhone 7 Plus is expected to sport a dual camera setup, making it capable of taking DSLR-like shots.

Now, the iPhone 7 Pro's original main selling point was that particular feature, and it was designed to be larger to accommodate it. After the manufacturing kinks were sorted out, Apple was able to fit it right in the Plus model, making the Pro an unnecessary addition to the lineup — except for those who are looking for a huge screen, that is. In other words, that explains why the development of the handset was ditched.

Meanwhile, the base iPhone 7 may not get the same treatment in terms of camera, but it's not getting left out. It's reportedly going to be equipped with optical image stabilization technology and a larger lens to boot, and that means it'll be fitted with a bigger sensor to allow it to get more light and take better photos.

Headphone Jack

While a lot of features are making appearances, the headphone jack takes a complete 180-degree turn and won't be on the next iteration of the iPhone. In other words, a pair of Lightning-compatible or Bluetooth-capable earphones is more or less required to listen to music or podcasts on it.

Interestingly enough, Apple cofounder Steve Wozniak says that this "design" is going to "tick off a lot of people," and he may very well be right about that.

As a silver lining of sorts, the iPhone 7 will probably come with Lightning earbuds out of the box, but that doesn't exactly help how it's alienating a lot of audio devices and users.

Wireless Earbuds

Previously, it was believed that the "truly wireless" earbuds called AirPods were going to be included in every iPhone 7, but that's unlikely the case. At any rate, it's safe to assume that it'll be unwrapped at the September event.

Home Button

The physical home button on the iPhone 7 is said to be changed up a lot, and users will no longer be able to press it. Analysts say that it's getting a Force Touch home button instead, and the gist of it is that a sensor will take its place.

More on that, an even more drastic update is coming to the 2017 iPhone, as Apple is reportedly going to ditch the whole home button deal in the foreseeable future.

Apple Watch 2

A new version of the Apple Watch is long overdue, and the Cupertino brand might finally deliver. However, it's not going to be a huge revamp. In a word, it may look almost the same as the current model, but it will be loaded with a new GPS chip to improve fitness tracking and navigation and other sensors such as a barometer.

OS Release Dates

At the WWDC 2016 held back in June, Apple revealed four new operating systems named the iOS 10 for the iPhone and iPad, the macOS Sierra for the Mac, watchOS 3 for the Apple Watch and tvOS for the Apple TV. It's safe to assume that the company will give out the release dates for them at the event.

Before anyone gets their hopes up too much, don't forget that these are all based on leaks and rumors, so it's recommended to take these bits with the proverbial grain of salt. If nothing else, they did give a good idea of what Apple might have up its sleeve for the September event.
