Xbox Live Gold subscribers are all set to receive another batch of free games come next month, and leading the charge is EA and DICE's cult classic Mirror's Edge.
Not Mirror's Edge: Catalyst, the new, underwhelming installment in the franchise. Players on both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One will instead be getting the original game in the series free of charge starting on Sept. 16. Mirror's Edge received great reviews and plenty of fan praise when it first released, thanks to its unique, parkour-focused first-person action, gameplay that the several-years-later sequel failed to accurately recapture.
Arriving at the start of September for Xbox 360 and Xbox One users is Forza Horizon. Microsoft's open-world racing series offers up gorgeous locations and plenty of fast cars, and arrives for free just in time for the arrival of the Australia-based Forza Horizon 3 on Sept. 27 for Xbox One.
So, what two games are available next month exclusively for Xbox One owners? First is Earthlock: Festival of Magic, a brand new indie game that will be available free all month long. It's a classic turn-based RPG with a colorful art style, as players take on the role of Aman and join a group of unlikely allies in a dangerous quest to save their world of Umbra. The game originally began as a Kickstarter project back in 2014, where it raised more than $178,000.
Arriving for free on Sept. 16 and remaining free until Oct. 15 is Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China. The side-scrolling spin-off of the Assassin's Creed franchise has players sneaking and fighting their way through beautiful 2D environments in a way that is both different yet familiar to fans of main entries in Ubisoft's popular game series. We didn't enjoy our time with its sequel, Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia, but any game is worth trying for free, right?
According to Microsoft, the above games have a $74 dollar value, which isn't bad considering that players spend $60 a year on Xbox Live. The games also have a combined number of 4,000 possible gamerscores for those looking to wrack up some achievements.
Players can still download three of the free Xbox Live Games With Gold games for August as well. Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate, WWE 2K16 and Beyond Good & Evil HD are all still available for download, so be sure to add them to your game library before September rolls around.
