Samsung has a stylish little Bluetooth speaker in the works and it's just been spotted at the FCC. Called the Samsung Scoop, the gadget may be Samsung's answer to Amazon Echo.
Bluetooth speakers are nothing new on the tech scene, as such gadgets have been around for a good while now. Amazon, however, took things to the next level and packed more smarts into its Echo speaker, equipping it with cool features and the popular Alexa voice-controlled assistant.
Samsung may be looking to challenge Amazon Echo's position with a nifty Bluetooth speaker of its own, which may soon make its official debut. AusDroid spotted the Samsung Scoop at the FCC, which is typically among the last stops a product needs to make before it's ready to hit the U.S. market.
The Samsung Scoop got the green light from the certification authority, but the documentation included in the application doesn't really offer many details about the device. The product images, however, do offer some clues as to what it will look like.
It seems that Samsung opted for a somewhat futuristic design for the Scoop speaker, which may indicate that this is the long-rumored Amazon Echo rival Samsung was said to be developing. Whether it will indeed be gunning for the Amazon Echo or not remains to be seen, as its purpose is just speculative at this point.
Nevertheless, the Samsung Scoop will feature a leather carry strap, a 3.5 mm input audio jack, a microphone for hands-free use, a microUSB charging port and, of course, Bluetooth connectivity.
The documentation makes no mention of battery capacity, but judging by the device's apparent dimensions, it will likely not pack a very large battery. If the device is tiny enough to fit comfortably into one's hand, it will likely sport a decent battery to last for roughly half a day of continuous use.
If it's gunning for the Amazon Echo, the Samsung Scoop should also come with some smart features to boot, but nothing's certain at this point. The FCC certification suggests the product may soon be ready to make its formal debut, but it's highly recommended to take all speculation with a grain of salt until then. FCC certifications don't reveal many details about the product, and don't necessarily mean that the device will actually hit the market.
We'll keep an eye out and update you on any new developments, so stay tuned. If the Samsung Scoop does see the light of day and sport features comparable to the Amazon Echo, would you be interested in one?
