Google began rolling out the latest software update to its Nexus devices, as well as Pixel C and General Mobile 4G on Aug. 22.
The over-the-air (OTA) update brings the devices from the Android Marshmallow to the latest Android 7.0 Nougat. The Dev preview devices are currently receiving the update, but it could take up to two weeks before the software update makes its way to all the compatible devices.
"Starting today and rolling out over the next several weeks, the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Pixel C and General Mobile 4G (Android One) will get an over-the-air software update to Android 7.0 Nougat. Devices enrolled in the Android Beta Program will also receive this final version," noted the company.
If you are hankering for Android 7.0 Nougat and are unable to wait for the update to hit your device and want to flash it now, you're in luck. We have a quick step-by-step guide to help you download the latest Google OS for your compatible Nexus tablet or smartphone.
Important Points To Remember
Before updating your compatible Nexus device to the Android 7.0 Nougat OS, you may also want to back up all important data. To do this, just navigate to Settings > Backup & Reset and make sure that the Backup My Data, as well as Automatic Restore options are checked.
Also ensure that you have sufficient free space for the update, which weighs 1.1 GB. Download the update on a stable Wi-Fi connection and make sure the device's battery is at least 50 percent.
How To Download Android 7.0 Nougat
Step 1: Navigate to the Android Beta program page from the compatible Nexus device.
Step 2: Sign-in using your Google account. Next, scroll to select your Nexus smartphone or tablet.
Step 3: Tap the Enroll Device option. Accept the terms and click Join Beta.
Step 4: Reboot your Nexus device.
Step 5: The update notification would now be available on your device.
Google notes that it usually takes 24 hours for the update to be sent to the compatible device. However, according to The Verge's team, the Android 7.0 Nougat update is sent in a matter of seconds to the device.
In case you do not get the alert on your Nexus device, you can also check for it manually by going to Settings > About Phone > System Update > Check Now.
Android 7.0 Nougat brings with it several exciting features such as an improved Doze Mode, Data Saver feature, Split Screen, a quick reply system for apps and even a virtual game where you can catch cats.
