If you own a Nexus smartphone and have been wondering when the Google device will benefit from its latest Android 7.0 Nougat operating system, then the wait is about to end.
According to a new report, Google is set to roll out the Android 7.0 Nougat update for its Nexus range of smartphones starting Monday, Aug. 22.
The latest information comes from 9to5Google, which spotted a software update schedule from Canadian carrier Telus on the network operator's forum. The schedule discloses that the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P smartphones will benefit from the software update from Aug. 22 onward.
"Following the final N Developer Preview in July and as noted by another rumor, Android 7 should launch this month. A Software Update Schedule from Canadian carrier Telus points to Monday, Aug. 22 being the precise date for when the Nexus 5X and 6P will receive Nougat," revealed the site.
Telus' software update schedules are usually accurate even though the carrier disclaims "all dates are approximate and subject to change."
The update will likely be an over-the-air (OTA) one, which suggests that unlocked Nexus devices could receive the software update before carrier-bound Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X smartphones.
It is anticipated that the Google Pixel C, Nexus 6 and Nexus 9, along with the Huawei-made Nexus 6P and the LG-made Nexus 5X will all receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update once it is rolled out on Aug. 22.
However, it is possible that the Nexus 5 may miss out on the software update as earlier in July, we reported that reliable leakster Evan Blass had shared on Twitter that the device would not get the update on release.
"Android 7.0 releases next month, with the 8/5 security patch. Sorry Nexus 5 owners, no Nougat for you," noted Blass at the time.
LG too has already confirmed that the LG G5 will get a taste of Android Nougat as part of the Preview Program.
Android 7.0 Nougat is expected to bring split-screen multitasking, a revamped Doze mode, enhanced alerts, an improved Data Saver option and could also mark the return of the Android camera feature.
The latest Google OS is also said to bring in recording as well as playback capabilities from Android TV services. Users will also be reportedly able to customize the settings of their password according to their needs such as the length of the PIN and the settings for the fingerprint sensor. The update is also said to house Project Svelte, which will decrease RAM usage, as well as optimize the manner in which apps run in the background.
