'NBA 2K15' face scanner isn't working for some, and it's creating hilarious results

The NBA 2K15 video game is out in stores today, and it comes with a nifty face scanning feature that uses the Xbox One Kinect or PS4 camera to virtually create an NBA player based on your appearance.

Then something went horribly, horribly wrong. Instead of virtual doppelgangers ready to shoot some hoops, players are instead being transformed into what can best be described as space mutants. And some just look like they might actually be orcs from Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor who lost their way. Check out some of the hilarious (and frightening) images below, and check out this album for even more pics.

It's a little unclear if there is an actual problem with the face scanning technology of the game, or if these users simply didn't set up the ideal conditions. The folks over at the PlayStation blog put together a handy little guide to get the most accurate results from your face scanning without winding up looking like Sam Cassell. The points are as follows:

1.) Sit in a well lit area.
2.) Take off any eyewear and keep head in the center of the green square.
3.) Rotate your head slowly at a 30 degree angle from one side to the other.
4.) Keep face relaxed and eye level with the camera.
5.) Fine tune your appearance with the in-game tools.

That sounds easy enough, but there is no amount of "fine tuning" that is going to fix the faces of the users above. But just think, instead of playing as boring normal you, you could climb the ranks of the NBA as a mutant man, overcoming adversity at every turn and proving the naysayers wrong. It would make for a more interesting storyline at least.
