A fan has recreated the GoldenEye 007 video game that was released for the Nintendo 64 gaming console back in 1997.
The first-person shooter game is based on James Bond's film GoldenEye. Gamers play as Agent 007, who has the task of stopping a criminal syndicate that wants to cause a global financial meltdown with an attack on London via a satellite weapon.
The mod, which is known as GoldenEye: Source, has now received its first update in more than three years. The recreated game in HD is available as a free download and features 25 recreated maps and 10 different multiplayer modes. The game also includes 28 redesigned weapons as found in the original game.
Unfortunately, the recreated game does not include any single player mode. The game developer's website confirms that the current version of the game is only multiplayer.
"No, we have no plans to make singleplayer as we do not have the resources or sufficient number of developers to create it," says the game developer, adding that they have wokred on the game for the last couple of years.
"For the past two years the development team has been hard at work on the next major release of GoldenEye: Source and the time has come to give everybody a taste of what's coming this Friday, August 12th!" noted GoldenEye: Source.
The recommended system requirements for playing the recreated GoldenEye 007 game are Windows 7 or later with 2.5 GHz quad-core processor. GPU should be DirectX 9 compatible with at least 1 GB GDDR5 VRAM. The system should have at least 10 GB of free space and 4 GB of RAM for seamless gaming experience.
Linux and Mac system owners will be disappointed as the recreated game is currently available only for Windows.
The game is a close recreation of the original and people who have downloaded the remake are already praising it.
"I am having an absolute blast playing. i also love that the secret passages and rooms are still here as well," says a player.
"I really love the map designs and updated artwork. I didn't play this game much as a kid, but this is [an] awesome port just by watching this," says another gamer.
Many fans of the original GoldenEye 007 have been waiting to see the sequel for the game, but for now they can enjoy playing the fan-made recreated version of the game.
