The Temple of Time is a familiar site to those who played The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, and they might be happy to know that the iconic site will be making a return in Breath of the Wild. However, if you expect it to have the same appearance as it once did then you're in for a shock, as the temple of time - ironically, enough - has fallen victim to the passage of time, and is now a mere shell of its former self.
We already had a chance to see The Temple of Time at E3 this year, but Nintendo was kind enough to upload a video showing off the site exclusively, giving us the chance to look at the temple at our leisure.
The video, captioned "Does this seem familiar?" shows just how much time has affected the site. Compared to the Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword where the Temple of Time proudly stood intact, Breath of the Wild shows the temple in ruins. In fact, many of the walls are gone and what walls do remain are covered in moss.
Similarly, the scenery is not quite the same. Granted, you wouldn't have been able to tell that there was once a bustling town near the temple in both the Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword, but you certainly wouldn't be able to tell that's the case in Breath of the Wild. Rather, the temple now stands near the Great Plateau and the Shrine of Resurrection, where the kingdom of Hyrule is said to be born.
With that said, the Temple of Time still looks quite impressive even if it has lost a bit of its luster over the years. It's reportedly possible to rush to the end of the game without finishing the story, and if that's the case, there is no doubt that a newer player who does so will likely come across the temple and recognize that it is supposed to be important, but not understand why.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was originally scheduled to launch in 2016, but is now set to launch on both Wii U and NX in 2017.
A specific release date has yet to be announced, but the NX release date has been confirmed as being in March 2017. As such, it's possible that Breath of the Wild will be available as a launch title (or close to it), as a recent report claimed Breath of the Wild, as well as a new Mario and Pokémon games, will be available for the NX within six months of its release.
Nintendo recently stated that Breath of the Wild needs to sell 2 million copies to become profitable, and considering that Skyward Sword sold 3.4 million copies, as well as the impact the E3 Demo has had on fans, it should have no problem reaching that quota.
