The App Store support page of Apple shows that since the iOS 8 was launched, the new OS had been installed in 47 percent of Apple devices. A huge percentage of iOS 7 users continue to stick with their current OS. This may be attributed to reports of bugs experienced by those who installed the latest iOS 8 version early on.
Prior to the launch of iOS 8, all apps that are HealthKit-enabled were disabled from the App Store because of the reported HealthKit bug. Though a bug fix was released soon afterwards, the updated iOS 8.0.1 brought a new batch of issues, such as disabling the functionalities of the cellular service and Touch ID on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus devices.
It is presumed that consumers are reluctant to upgrade to the new iOS 8 version after learning about the number of problems that came up with Apple's new OS. The HealthKit bug seemed to have paved the way for the OS to continue having several bugs and glitches. Healthkit is an iOS 8 feature that gathers data from wellness-promoting apps and fitness wearables.
On Sept. 24, a few days after the iOS 8 was released, the updated OS came out on a "rescue launch" as consumers complained about several issues brought on by the new OS. However, the updated version also brought a slew of new issues: owners of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus reported the Touch ID hardware and cellular functions bog down. The following day, Apple released an iOS 8.0.2 update in order to patch the issues on cellular, HealthKit and Touch ID.
Several other problems have also been reported. One of these involve the iCloud Drive's option known as "Reset All Settings." After applying this feature, users complained that their documents were deleted from iCloud. Moreover, several other users reported issues with Bluetooth, while other complaints dealt with the excessive draining of the battery and slow Wi-Fi speed.
Compared with iOS 7, iOS 8 trails behind in terms of popularity. When iOS 7 was launched on Sept. 18, 2013, an adoption rate of the OS was recorded at 15 percent. Twenty days later, on Oct. 7, 2013, iOS 7 gained an adoption rate of 69.7 percent.
Apple iOS 8 is only less than a month old but it has already been plagued with a series of technical issues. While the latest 8.0.2 version may appear to more stable, some users still complain about connectivity issues and other glitches.
