'StarCraft' HD Remaster Will Be Revealed In September: Report

The classic Blizzard RTS game StarCraft is reportedly getting an HD remaster, and a teaser of what's to come is expected to roll out this September.

According to the sources, it will feature the same gameplay as the original that launched back in 1998, and the only differences are a new user interface and enhanced graphics.

"Today, multiple sources with knowledge of Blizzard internal plans said that Blizzard will reveal StarCraft HD to the public this September. The StarCraft HD remastered version will retain the original gameplay and is said to have improved graphics resolution and user interface (UI)," Kotaku reports, noting that it's still unclear whether it'll use 2D or 3D graphics.

Now, the big news (Google translation) is from the reputable Korean website iNews24, and it says that more details are going to be revealed in November at the BlizzCon 2016.

Kotaku also mentions that the possible reason why the announcement is in September is because the StarCraft II World Championship Series finals is going to be held in Mexico City from Sept. 10 to 11. Needless to say, that's just great timing to make the huge unveiling of the HD remastered StarCraft.

Of course, it's recommended to take this with the proverbial grain of salt until Blizzard officially announces anything.

On that note, it's worth pointing out that StarCraft is still one of the most popular RTS games today. In Korea, it's not that far behind prominent titles such as Overwatch and League of Legends in terms of popularity, still bringing in players to internet cafes. That means there's more or less a good case for the developers to launch something like this.

It would be interesting to see how an HD version of StarCraft will fare in the modern gaming world across the globe, but it's probably a safe bet to assume that a lot of fans will be picking it up — that is, if it indeed turns out to be true.

To boil things down, it would be better to not get our hopes up too high just yet, but there's probably no real harm in anticipating it. All we can do for now is to keep our fingers crossed for it.

In other related news, Blizzard is said to "reinvent" both StarCraft and Overwatch for the mobile, so that's another thing to keep an eye out for.

At any rate, what do you think of an HD remastered StarCraft? Feel free to let us know in the comments section below.
