It's time to pop some bottles, comic book fans, because Suicide Squad has finally hit theaters.
That means we should all plan on having weekends filled with festivities that allow us to bring out our best cosplay costumes and sip on some cocktails with our friends — after all, it was director David Ayer who said that deciding which characters to include in the film was like "curating a cocktail party, making sure you have the right mix of personalities."
Moviegoers might be inspired by Harley Quinn's bartending skills, but may need a little help themselves when it comes to whipping up a sinfully-creative cocktail. So, we compiled a list of themed drinks that are easy to make and capture the spirit of the group of baddies, and yes, they are good.
Celebrate the release of Suicide Squad with these cocktail recipes inspired by the movie.
Diabolical Diablo
Courtesy of Blue Nectar Tequila, this cocktail recipe brings on the heat thanks to its jalapeño flavor, making it an option of which Diablo would certainly approve. This devilish beverage is refreshing with a little spice, perfect for before celebrating the night on the town to catch up with your squad.
Ingredients:
1 oz Blue Nectar Reposado Extra Blend
1 oz Del Maguey Mezcal
3/4 oz Lime Juice
1/2 oz Grapefruit Juice
1/2 oz Jalapeño Syrup – *see below
1 Dash Angostura Bitters
Place all the ingredients in a shaker, dry shake, strain and pour into a glass with ice. Garnish with a slice of jalapeño.
*For Syrup: Combine equal parts sugar and water in a small saucepan. Add sliced jalapeno (to taste), bring to a simmer and strain.
The Harley Quinn
DC Comics fans have high hopes for Margot Robbie's portrayal of Harley Quinn, and after seeing her in action, it's time to live it up just like she would. That calls for a cocktail that, like Harley, is sweet and sassy.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 oz Cherry Vodka
1 oz Tequila
1 oz Rum
1 tbsp Grenadine
3 oz Pineapple juice
Black sanding sugar
1 tbsp Simple syrup
Ice
For sanding sugar: pour sugar into a ziplock bag and add 2 drops of black food color and mix.
Combine vodka, tequila, rum and grenadine with ice in a shaker. Shake well and top off with pineapple juice.
Deadshot Cocktail
Will Smith looks pretty bad (in a good way) as Deadshot, and if he is your favorite antihero, this drink is for you. It combines the three J's: Jim, Jack and Jose, with some soda to make it smooth, yet strong.
Ingredients:
1 oz Jim Bean
1 oz Jack Daniels
1 1/2 oz Jose Cuervo
3 oz Coke
Black Sanding sugar
2 tbsp. Simple syrup
Create the sanding sugar to rim the glass as mentioned above for the Harley Quinn. Dip the glass in the simple syrup and then in the black sugar. Put ice in a glass and pour in liquors with a splash of Coke.
Jester of Genocide
If you really want to spend the night with a huge grin on your face, serve the Château du Tariquet's recipe for Jester of Genocide, a drink that has a wicked combination of Blanche Armagnac and absinthe, which is known for its hallucinogenic reputation. The ingredients of this drink may not be accessible to everyone, but those who are lucky enough to make it will surely be in high spirits.
Ingredients:
3/4 oz Château du Tariquet Blanche
3/4 oz lemon juice
3/4 oz Cointreau
3/4 oz La Quintinye Vermouth Royal Blanc
1 dash absinthe
1 Maraschino cherry
Combine all liquid ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a chilled Martini glass. Add one Maraschino cherry.
The Joker
This recipe is actually for a shot and not a cocktail, perfect for pre-gaming or when wanting to get a little more crazy throughout the night.
Ingredients:
Midori
Vodka
1 package of watermelon Pop Rocks
Equally mix 1 part of the melon-flavored liquor (which gives this drink its Joker-green color) with 1 part vodka into a shaker with ice. Sprinkle Pop Rocks candy into shot glasses and pour the liquid in.
The Killer Croc Crush
Courtesy of Usquaebach Blended Scotch Whisky, this recipe is for those ready to have one killer of a time. It is inspired by a Bayou classic to have that Southern feel to it, while being refreshing for the summer. This is definitely one for whisky fans.
Ingredients:
2 oz Usquaebach Reserve Blended Scotch Whisky
6 Mint leaves
4 Lemon wedges
1 tsp White sugar
1 cup Crushed ice
Mint sprigs for garnish
Start by adding the mint, lemon and sugar in a shaker and muddle. Then, add Usquaebach
Reserve Blended Scotch Whisky (or whisky of your choice) and shake. Pour into a julep cup over crushed ice, topped with additional crushed ice and garnish with a sprig of mint.
