Nexus 6 Data Connection Issues Affect Users Worldwide, T-Mobile Confirms

Nexus 6 users on T-Mobile have experienced some data connection issues recently, and T-Mobile confirms the connection drops are affecting users worldwide.

Most commonly, the LTE data connection drops when the GPS is activated, and will not resume working until the device is rebooted.

Users took to Reddit and the Google Product Forums to report on the Nexus 6 data outages, and if at first it seemed to be an issue affecting T-Mobile users in the United States, the growing thread revealed the problem is more widespread.

T-Mobile itself took to Twitter to confirm that the Nexus 6 data connection drops are indeed affecting devices worldwide.

Based on user reports on Reddit, the Nexus 6 LTE data connection issues are affecting users from the United States, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Sweden, Finland, Germany and Hong Kong.

A Google engineer, going by the username Orrin, has also responded to reports on the Google Product Forums and said that Google is looking into the matter. Orrin further notes that some users may be asked to submit bug reports to help figure out the issue.

Meanwhile, another response on the Forum comes from a T-Mobile employee named Ashley Wengel, who says multiple Nexus 6 owners experienced LTE data connection issues. The APN settings were apparently changed, although the device owners did not change them.

"We performed a cancel location and reset the APN settings and it was working. Then, 20 minutes later, a customer that had come in earlier and we 'fixed' the issue but the issue has come back. The APN settings reset again and issue came back," Wengel explains.

The APN should be "T-Mobile US LTE," but for some reason it changed to "T-Mobile GPRS" and MMSC was completely wiped.

A particular cause for the Nexus 6 LTE data connection drops is yet to be found, but Google and Motorola should come up with a fix soon enough.

It's also worth pointing out that the problems are not affecting just Nexus 6 owners who installed the August Android Security Patch, as initially thought. Owners with the July Security Patch, as well as those running both stock and aftermarket ROMs, are experiencing the same issues with data outages. Not all Nexus 6 users are experiencing the same issue, however.

It remains to be seen when the problems will be resolved, but it should not take long now. We'll keep you up to date on any new developments, so stay tuned.
