Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Highlights: Top 5 Features You'll Love

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is finally official, and it's rocking top-notch specs and features all around so we've compiled a list of the top 5 highlights you'll love.

As expected, the Galaxy Note 7 is a powerhouse to the core, mixing popular features from its Note 5 predecessor (Samsung skipped the Note 6 moniker) launched in 2015 with top features to the Galaxy S7 edge flagship smartphone launched earlier this year.

The new Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will hit all major U.S. carriers later this month, on Aug. 19, though preorders are already kicking off on Aug. 3. If you're not sure just yet whether to preorder the Galaxy Note 7, here's a rundown of the best features the phablet has to offer.

1. Display

The Galaxy Note 7 rocks a 5.7-inch dual-curved Super AMOLED display with a high QHD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels and Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It's the very first device in the Note series to feature a dual-curved display, and Samsung touts that the sleek curvature allows the Galaxy Note 7 to be 2.2 mm narrower than the Galaxy Note 5, despite having the same screen size. The curvature is also different from that of the Galaxy S7 edge, allowing for more flat-surface screen real estate.

2. Iris Scanner

Marking another first not just for the Note line, but for the entire Samsung lineup, the Galaxy Note 7 also boasts an advanced iris scanner for extra security. The iris scanner allows users to easily and safely unlock their handsets with their eyes, and Samsung says it's more secure than a fingerprint scanner.

The feature relies on an infrared camera, similar to how Windows 10 laptops or Microsoft's Lumia 950 work. It works great in low light, but it's not so good in direct sunlight. The Galaxy Note 7 iris scanner can also serve to lock and unlock apps, notes, photos and other content you wish to keep away from prying eyes and separate from other phone data.

"Keep your stuff secure. With a new iris scanner, the Note7 has more options to protect your contacts, emails, contracts, and other documents," touts Samsung.

3. S Pen

The Galaxy Note 7 would not be a Note flagship without its iconic S Pen stylus, and it's now better than ever. Samsung has upgraded the stylus to make it water-resistant, sport twice the fine pressure sensitivity of its predecessor and boast a finer point for more accuracy.

The new S Pen also gets a bunch of neat new software features such as a quick text translation tool, teased in the first Galaxy Note 7 ad a few days ago, a new GIF creation tool and a nifty magnifying loupe.

4. USB Type-C

Marking yet another first for Samsung devices, the new Galaxy Note 7 boasts the faster and more advanced USB Type-C standard. Apple, HTC, LG and others have already launched flagships with USB Type-C a while ago, so it was only a matter of time before Samsung joined the party.

5. IP68 Rating

The new Samsung Galaxy Note 7 also boasts IP68 certification for dust- and water-resistance, something its Galaxy Note 5 predecessor did not have. The rating means the phablet is now more rugged and durable, able to withstand the occasional splash without suffering any damage.

Other Specs And Features

Overall, the Galaxy Note 7 sports very similar specs to the Galaxy S7 line, with virtually identical internals. The new flagship phablet packs the same Snapdragon 820 or Exynos 8890 processor (depending on region) as the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, as well as the same 4 GB of RAM, 12-megapixel rear camera, quick charging and quick wireless charging, microSD support and more.

On the other hand, the Galaxy Note 7 starts at 64 GB of internal storage as opposed to the Galaxy S7's 32 GB of native storage for the base model.

These top 5 features listed here are just scratching the surface of what the Galaxy Note 7 has to offer, as the new phablet has plenty of other neat tricks and perks aside from these highlights.
