'Fallout Shelter' Gets Biggest Update Yet: New Quest System, Enhanced Combat And More

Fallout Shelter recently received its most consistent and important update from Bethesda, and the wasteland universe just expanded by a huge degree.

If mobile games are not your thing, you should know that the game's location is one of Fallout's iconic Vault-Tec vaults, and gamers play as the Overseer of the facility.

The task is to craft your vault while attracting and training dwellers, who can be sent into the wasteland for new adventures. Fallout Shelter was very well received by fans of the PC/console game, and as much as 10 million downloads were registered over the Play Store alone. At the moment, an estimated number of 50 million gamers have downloaded Fallout Shelter on their mobile devices.

The hefty 1.6 update should boost these numbers, as the pack includes an exciting new quest system and a revamped combat mechanic. Overseers who don't want to waste time can make use of two newly introduced items: the Starter Pack and the Nuka-Cola Quantum, respectively.

The first lets players get a jump start on new vault, while the latter accelerates the rhythm at which a number of tasks get done in the vault. Additionally, the Nuka-Cola Quantum can help Overseers bring back dwellers from the wasteland in a heartbeat.

Bethesda reports that more than 5 billion game sessions were registered, with a whopping 715 million dwellers being sent out into the wilderness to retrieve items or discover new recipes for crafting the best weapons and armor.

After the 1.6 update, the wasteland hides even more opportunities. For example, Overseers are now able to directly control the wasteland dweller while they explore other vaults or landmarks that loyal fans will recognize, such as the Super Duper Mart and the Red Rocket fuel stop.

The combat system was reworked to offer more satisfaction to the player. Overseers who gain control of the dweller are able to choose which opponent is attacked, and in which order. A mini-game is embedded that grants a critical hit when won.

A big bonus from Bethesda is the fact that users can now download Fallout Shelter for PC via Bethesda.net. In the computer version, gamers will get all the content from the mobile version. This means Crafting, Pets, Scrapping and Junk, dweller customization and the 1.6 update will be bundled neatly for your Vault-Tec experience.
