Apple refines app store search engine: Report

Apple has reportedly refined its app store search engine, which will now offer better searching experience for users.

The recent tweak will help overcome typo mistakes by users and, at the same time, boost the search of apps that are somewhat difficult to search at a single go.

"A recent change to Apple's App Store search engine now leads to improved search results for misspelled queries with small typos, we've learned. In addition, searchers looking for an app they know by name, but are unsure if it has spaces in the title, are also seeing better results," reports TechCrunch.

The TechCrunch report also gives an example that prior to the recent change, QuizUp game would not throw up in results if a user typed Quiz Up (without a space), but now the Apple app store search engine will show the game as a search result.

Accidentally typing an incorrect spelling on any search engine is very common. However, many users will still want the search engine to show the mistyped app's name. Apple's recent tweak will also help such users and will reduce the search time but will also improve the search experience for users.

"That's great news for app publishers and yet another step in Apple's efforts to improve app discoverability," said Craig Palli, Chief Strategy Officer at mobile app marketer Fiksu.

Developers who have difficulty in spelling lengthy names for their apps may get a search boost with the latest search engine development deployed by Apple.

Apple will also hope to come at par with rival Google Play store with the latest refinement to its app store. Reports suggest that Google Play store usually showed more results than the Apple app store, prior to the Apple search engine update.

The recent update can be considered very small, but it will provide a better user experience. Apple may find an increase in searches of complex app names giving a slight lift to their developers.
