AnTuTu released its Top 10 Performance Smartphones for the first half of this year and the OnePlus 3 flagship rules them all, proudly assuming the top position.
The OnePlus 3 launched in June and faced some hurdles along the way. After receiving some criticism over its RAM management, highlighted by a speed test against the Galaxy S7 edge, the OnePlus 3 recently saw its update halted and its price increased in the UK over Brexit woes.
Nevertheless, the OnePlus 3 is one powerful handset and AnTuTu's latest results prove it. The OnePlus 3 is leading the pack in AnTuTu's Top 10 Performance Smartphones and although it's not by a wide margin, it's still a notable achievement.
The handset ranks above other smartphones with 6 GB of RAM, as well as above flagship smartphones such as the Galaxy S7 edge and iPhone 6s.
"OnePlus 3, with its flagship configuration-Snapdragon 820, [6 GB] RAM with 64 GB ROM gets the best one, average score 143,028," notes AnTuTu.
For those who might doubt the results, let's clear the air first. AnTuTu's methods may indeed have some limits, as it gets the data from the version 6 of the AnTuTu benchmark app. This means that its statistical data is limited to what results users upload, so it may not reflect reality 100 percent. At the same time, it's worth pointing out that AnTuTu is mainly a Chinese service, so it's not all that surprising to see the results lean in favor of Chinese handsets — they're more ubiquitous in that market.
That said, let's take a look at the entire top: all smartphones included here — except for iPhones — have Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processors and at least 4 GB of RAM firing things up. The top five smartphones, however, have full HD screens (1,920 x 1,080 pixels), which gives them a higher score compared to handsets that have to power a higher-resolution QHD display, like the Galaxy S7 edge.
The top five handsets on the list are, in order: the OnePlus 3, Vivo Xplay 5 Elite, LeEco Max 2, Lenovo Zuk Z2 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 5. The latter five positions are occupied by the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, iPhone 6s, ZTE Axon 7, iPhone SE and Lenovo Zuk Z2.
The OnePlus 3 doesn't have a significantly higher score despite its hefty 6 GB of RAM, but then again, this type of benchmark tests typically highlights the raw performance of the device, mainly the processing, graphics and storage.
On the other hand, the fact that the OnePlus 3 is at the very top goes to show that the smartphone indeed packs powerful internals all around, and OnePlus also put some effort into fine-tuning the device.
