Staying true to the claim that the Watch is just as much a fashion item as it is a piece of technology, Apple held a viewing event right smack in the middle of Paris Fashion Week, showcasing its wearable at trendy boutique Colette.
An invite to the event was first posted on Colette's website, first just hinting at the possibility of an Apple Watch display, thanks to the circular pattern the invitation used, which closely resembles the smart watch's universe-style user interface. "Colette and Apple invite you to a one day only experience," read the invite.
Located along rue Saint-Honoré in Paris' 1st Arrondissement, Colette is an ultra-hip retailer carrying an assortment of clothes and accessories. It has three storeys spanning 8,000 square feet of space, proving to be more than enough room for a bookshop, exhibition space, and water bar where over 100 brands of bottled water are being sold.
On Sept. 30, it became the Apple Watch's home for one day. From 11 a.m. To 7 p.m. local time, customers had the opportunity to look at the Apple Watch up close.
Though the smart watch couldn't be touched, this one-day showcase at Colette marks the first time that the Apple Watch has been displayed outside of an invite-only event. Members of the press had the opportunity to see the Watch up close when it was unveiled a few weeks ago, but the experience was not extensive, given the watches on display at the time were not working models.
No exact launch dates have been given but the Apple Watch is expected to become available in early 2015. No word yet as well if the smart watch will be sold in Colette, although the idea was considered interesting by Apple representatives.
The Apple Watch will feature three models. Pricing information is not yet available nor clues as to the kind of battery the Watch will offer. However, Apple has said that the Watch will have to be charged every night, much like any other device or smartphone.
The Apple Watch will tell time, of course, just like all watches, but it differentiates itself from the rest by ensuring users make the most out of their time. The Watch has been highly anticipated because both consumers and industry insiders are keen on seeing what Apple will be doing to beat Android Wear smart watches.
Aside from the health apps and messaging functionality, the Watch will also support Apple Pay.
